CORNERSTONE PRESS St. Louis, began in the early 70's.  Here's the long version for all of you who are believers in the small press.

Peter Carlos was editor of image magazine: a magazine of the arts published through the English Department at the University of Missouri. This was circa 1972. Anthony J Summers met Peter Carlos during an English class taught by none other than Howard Schwartz. Having a common interest in the written and published word, Peter convinced Anthony to help edit image. In about 1974, the two young men decided to expand their publishing empire and produce books as well.  The first book was a modest collection of poetry written by George Buggs. Being naive, it cost the publishers more to print and produce the book than the listed cover price. Those were the good old days. Books and magazine issues were set by typographers, copy was printed by IBM Selectronic typewriters, waxed (with a hand waxer) onto non-printable blue-ink layout sheets, then sent to the printer. It was a tedious process.

Peter moved to California to seek fame and fortune and indeed has made a name for himself in film and as a professor. Anthony stuck it out and kept image magazine and Cornerstone Press alive.  image was published for close to 15 years. A cast of guest editors graced the pages of image over the years.  It was fun... but in the mid-1980's it died an un-noticed death like so many other literary magazines.  One day it may come back into focus.
